The famous Adolf Munkel path:

Advice and useful information: Famous high path with interesting glimpses of the geological structure of the Dolomites. The path was created in 1905 from the German section of the Alpenverein of Dresden and takes its name from its founder. The excursion does not present particular difficulties. However, solid walking boots are essential.
  • At a glance: Zans - Tschantschenon – Adolf-Munkel path – Malga Glatschalm – Malga Gschnagenhardtalm – Malga Dusleralm – Zans.
  • Departure point: Zans in the valley bottom of Funes (1670 m).
  • Height difference: 380 m
  • Highest point: close to the Malga Gschnagenhardtalm (ca. 2050 m). Duration: 4 hours
  • Length of route: ca. 10 km
  • Difficulty level: none in particular, a good pair of walking boots is essential.

Description of the itinerary: From Zans in the valley bottom of Funes (1670 m, large car parks, hotels and restaurants) on the forest road (path 33) south-eastwards towards the woods up to a bend. Turn left, still across the woods, uphill to the bridge over the Tschantschenonbach stream (1865 m, about 1 hour; higher up you can see the Tschantschenon forest ranger’s house), where the Adolf Munkel path starts.  Continue on this high path (number 35) partly flat, partly up- and downhill in the area of the border with the woods to the West. After about 20 minutes, there is a deviation, which is a 10 minute walk from the Malga Glatschalm located lower down (1902 m, possibility of a meal). But we stay on the high path and continue to the West, accompanied by splendid Swiss pines and the vertiginous peaks of the Odles, as high as 3000 metres. After another 45 minutes, we leave the high path, heading right and shortly after, following the indications, we reach the Malga Gschnagenhartalm (1996 m, two refuges in a splendid position). After a well-deserved rest and refreshments, we go down the forest road 34 on hairpin bends towards the woods, heading right at a certain point towards the nearby Malga Dusleralm (1782 m, drinks). On a comfortable path, still in the middle of the woods, we return to Zans. From Malga Gschnagenhardtalm 1 hour.
